I think your underlaying question is "Do I need money to be happy". While there is no correct answer (it depends on you), in my experience the answer is no.
Let me tell you a story. When I was younger I was making about 25K a year. At that time I thought "oh, if I could only make 50K a year, life would be so much easier and I could be happy". Few years later I end up making 58K . At that time I said "58K is great, but really if I could make 100K I would be more financially independent and have a chance to be finally happy". Few years later I was making 140K... but now I realize that money has nothing to do with happiness. Having 1$ or 1M is absolutely the same. Happiness can be found in courage not in cash. The courage of living the life you enjoy and to do what you really like to do with abandon and with no reserve.

Several years a go someone wiser than me said: "A balanced, happy life is made of 8 hours of work, 8 hours of play, 8 hours of sleep." As you can easily understand there is no money needed to do any of the 3 task above.
